Pregnancy and Postpartum...you are not alone!

postpartum pregnancy Jul 02, 2020

Pregnancy and being a new parent can be amazing, but also really hard!

There are so many changes both inside and out…your body changes, your hormones are running wild, you have new responsibilities, priorities change, communication with your partner is often more strained.

But guess what? You are not alone! You do not need to ever think that you are the only one who is struggling….

Dr. Sarah and I care for 100’s of new families every year and the issues women talk to us are often centred around a few core issues! There are more of course, and not everyone’s journey is the same…but here are the most common concerns women and their partners raise with us!

Sleep - during the end of pregnancy and the first few months postpartum sleep is like a unicorn that is an elusive dream!  The lack of sleep means not only are we tired, but we also don’t have the patience for those around us that we normally do…and this includes ourselves!

Feeding - There are so many issues that come up during the first few months whether you are breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, there are questions galore around these topics, from too much milk supply, not enough, how much should they be getting, how do I know they are getting enough, are their poops normal….you get the drift!

Relationships - It is no longer just the two of you…you now have a new little one in the picture, and this often brings up issues that have never been a part of the conversation before, roles & responsibilities in the house, extended family issue, different expectations of how things will look, and how decisions will be made are all part of the mix.

Mood issues are a huge part of the postpartum experience, whether it is the postpartum blues or more significant like postpartum anxiety or depression which is worsened by all the issues listed above!

Your body - there are so many changes during pregnancy and in the postpartum period which means your body is not what it was, or what you expected.  These can affect how you feel about yourself, how you think your partner feels about you. For some women, this is a positive thing, for some a negative, and for some, somewhere in between.

Needless to say, …there is a lot going on during this time, and we all need some help and support getting through that!  Be it from our friends, families, caregivers or an online community!

This is why Dr. Sarah and I started the Pregnancy Posse.  We want to help create an online support system for you, especially during this time of COVID when we can not reach out to many of our trusted systems.  We want to be there for you, to help support you during this amazing, but sometimes challenging transition into parenthood, and help you to support other mommas going through the same thing!

Today is the last day to sign up as a Founding Member…you can help create this community into what you need and want!!! Sign up by July 2, 2020 at 8:00 pm and you can be a part of it for only $10 a month, for as long as you want to join us for.

If you choose not to join us, that’s okay!! But make sure that you have a positive, knowledgable and supportive community around you that is there to help you have the best experience you can, and empower your journey into and through parenthood, while not letting you forget yourself in the process.

We wish you well during this journey…it is quite the ride!!
